Good Food Handling Practices refers to post harvest handling of produce to minimize contamination. Practices include water quality, sanitation of the packing house, pest control programs, and sanitation of containers.
A GAP food safety program reduces the risk of microbial contamination that can cause consumer illness from consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.
The Food Handler Certification Program provides an opportunity for food handlers to learn about food safety. Food handlers learn about public health legislation, the role of the public health inspector, food borne illness, safe food handling methods and food premises sanitation.
